But instead, this time around, we just got a mess of a show. I think that could have been amazing, and I still look forward to the possibility that this will be done sometime in the future, when it's clearer that the old guard is just too old to keep doing this.

Unfortunately, Carter hasn't overcome his flaws as a writer, and the actors are getting too old to be playing the same roles they played twenty years ago.īefore the first new season aired, there was a time when I got it in my mind that it would be a true reboot, with new young actors cast in the lead roles, that would clean up the mythology and retell the story the way we do TV shows today. I also believe, however, that Chris Carter loves his baby, and probably enjoyed working on it again, and that DD and GA probably enjoyed reprising their most famous roles together. I think that anytime someone has a property like this, money is most certainly a factor. Then Chris Carter mentioned that we're still paranoid of the government, especially in the aftermath of all the massive restrictions that 9/11 imposed. To me, it seemed like The X-Files was a quintessential '90s show, that capitalized on UFO/alien abduction fears, which seem a little quaint these days. This is what I thought when I first heard they were gonna do it.

The cynical part of me thinks they rebooted the series as a cash grab The new seasons were pretty bad, but there were a couple episodes that I would say were memorable, like Follower and the two Darin Morgan wrote (obviously). Just wish Dogget was around in the revival. He probably does not view his biological parents the same as his adoptive parents. I do think CC did a poor job with having Scully basically throwing him away at the series finale, but I also think we have to remember that William was raised by his adoptive parents. I mean its no wonder why he wants to run away, he doesn't know what to do with himself. To add, his adoptive parents were killed, so he's definitely got some heavy trauma there. Maybe its the cycle repeating itself? That would be an interesting future plot. He takes after certain familial sociopathic tendencies without giving too much away.

He's the typical angsty teenager going through what every teenager goes through plus his alien powers of which he clearly can't control. I don't relate to him but I understand why he is the way he is. That aside, I find William to be interesting character as much of an asshole he is. Not all characters have to be nice people. I don't understand why you expect William to be likeable. Season 8 was wonderful and 9 to a degree was.
Of all the seasons, 7 followed by 6 were my least favorites. I didn't like season 10 too much, except for the two middle episodes, but I very much enjoyed season 11. Why were these two seasons made anyway? The ending to season 9 with the two part movie was brilliant, making it like a court case with Mulder on trial and bringing back the old characters and ending it with what we assumes was the death of CSM. Thier son is the most unlikeable character other than cigarette smoking man. Rule number one, have characters that are likable. Is it just me, or was Mulder and Scully's grown up son a complete ahole, especially with the whole killing people. There is nothing memeroable about any of the episodes and the final episode, and im assuming series final just plain stunk. Even the seasons, episodes without Mulder, that had agent Doggett i really enjoy.īut my goodness, the recent seasons 10 and 11 were in my opinion just awful. Im the biggest XFiles fan there is, i absolutely love Season 1 to 9.
